Oath of Enlistment. No Expiration Date-But There IS an Exception

Merriam-Webster defines Oath as “a solemn usually formal calling upon God or a god to witness to the truth of what one says or to witness that one sincerely intends to do what one says” and “a solemn attestation of the truth or inviolability of one’s words”

by Joe Meadors

Oaths are administered to both those entering the military and those assuming Congressional office. The text of the two oaths differ a bit:

I, (state name of enlistee), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. (So help me God).” Military Oath

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God.” Congressional Oath

There are obvious differences between the two but what they both share is the lack of an expiration date and the obligation to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

What is most notable about both oaths is what is not included, but is sacrosanct, i.e., “immune from criticism or violation.”

YOU WILL ALLOW ISRAEL TO COMMIT WAR CRIMES AGAINST THE UNITED STATES WITH IMPUNITY!

Case in point, the June 8, 1967, Israeli attack on the USS Liberty.

We well documented the War Crimes Israel committed during the attack in the War Crimes Report we filed with the Department of the Army on June 8, 2005–the 38th anniversary of the attack on our ship.

The Department of Defense response to our War Crimes Report? Absolutely nothing.

How did Members of Congress respond to requests that they recommend the Department of Defense do something–anything–about our War Crimes Report? They told their constituents that the US government has investigated the attack numerous times and all reported that Israel was blameless.

Said another way, Members of Congress lied to their constituents.

Not allowing ourselves to sit on our laurels, we contacted many Members of Congress and asked them to allow us to provide honest information about the attack for them to use in their boilerplate responses. We’ve done this many times in the past to no avail and to no one’s surprise, this request was again ignored by Congress.

You can help us persuade Congress to move from texts provided by Israel partisans to facts provided by USS Liberty survivors in their boilerplate.

Email your Congressional Delegation and let us know what the response from Congress is.
